High School Algebra: Students will review and master essential algebra concepts such as: domain, range, absolute value, factoring, graphing, and systems of equations and inequalities. Students will study and solve linear, quadratic, and radical equations. By the conclusion of this course, the students should be well prepared to begin their high school math experience. SI Math Teacher, John DeBenedetti will teach this course.
Geometry: The course reviews the basic concepts, terminology, and notation involved in geometry. Conditional statements, conjectures, theorems, and written justifications are systematically brought into the course, along with the subjects to which they pertain, in the context of problem-solving as well as in the context of the preparation of formal proofs.
*Please note, you will not have the option to choose your math course during registration. Students will be assigned to High School Algebra or Geometry, by St. Ignatius, depending on their Math Placement Exam Scores. You will receive your final schedule on or before June 10.
English Edge
Reading and writing are two of the most essential skills you’ll develop at SI. This course will help you strengthen your reading strategies and refine your writing skills to set you up for success in 9th-grade English and other classes.
This summer, students will engage with a variety of short stories, explore poetry, and—most importantly—complete their summer reading assignments with thorough annotations. Class discussions play a key role at SI, and this course will help you make connections with other classmates, share perspectives using the texts we read, and help you develop confidence in expressing your ideas. Additionally, students will complete most--though not all--of their required Canvas training course and practice using the learning platform daily. This course is led by Ms. Natalia Narvaez, English Department Chair.
Foundations in Justice
This course serves as both an introduction to SI’s academic environment and an opportunity to engage deeply with its values, particularly the Ignatian commitment to justice, reflection, and community. The class will center on a thoughtful reading and discussion of March, Books 1-3 by John Lewis, Nate Powell, and Andrew Aydin (required reading assignment for social science), alongside additional readings that challenge students to think critically about history and society. Students will also complete their Religious Studies Summer Homework! Through discussion, analysis, and collaborative activities, students will develop critical research skills, examine diverse perspectives, and explore what it means to be an active and engaged learner at SI.
WAITLISTS: Should your preferred course sell out, please add your child to the waitlist by adding your preferred course to your cart, create a profile for your child, and then they will be added (please note, you will not receive an email confirmation). If a spot opens up, we will notify you via email and/or phone to complete registration.
